Hello Goal Getter and hello 2021!

It’s time. Time to redefine and realign and set that big goal you want to make happen this year. Time to start making the moves from where you are to where you want to be.

The most important first step is to answer these simple questions and DECIDE what it is that you truly want.

What do you want more than anything this year?

More importantly…

What are you ready, willing, and able to do to get there?

You have to decide what you want, because if you never define your finish line, you’ll never cross it.

I believe in you. You can do this. You really can.

The Goal Getter Guide

Now that you know what it is that you want, let’s take a closer look at this five-minute exercise that will help you get there!

Goal – A goal is something you want to happen.

Skill – A skill is a power to do something. The competency, ability, or capacity to do it. Not knowledge.

Practice – Practice is exercises and applications that help build skills.

Actions – Actions are specific, incremental tasks that you can do easily, daily, or as often as possible. Eventually, actions become habits (and this is where the magic happens).

5-Minute Goal Setting Exercise

If you put your goals on paper, on purpose, you’re much more likely to achieve them. So grab a notebook, copy and paste this, and fill it out:

My goal is to __________________.

The skill I need to accomplish this goal is _____________________.

The practices I can repeat to build the skill above are ________________ and ____________________.

The small and specific actions I can realistically do every single day to build the practices above are ______________, _____________, ________________, and _________________.

Here is an example:

One goal of mine this year is to race another half Ironman.

The skills I need to accomplish this goal are:

  1. Swimming, biking, running
  2. Adhere to a training schedule

The practices I can repeat to build the skills above are:

  1. Swimming, biking, and running –> Practice each sport technique and efficiency
  2. Adhere to a training schedule –> Create a schedule

The small and specific actions I can realistically do every single day to build the practices above are:

  1. Swimming, biking, and running –> Practice each sport technique and efficiency –> complete specific workouts!
  2. Adhere to a training schedule –> Create a schedule –> execute the workouts, plan for recovery, track workouts.

This exercise is not going to be perfect the first time around.

Progress isn’t going to appear out of thin air, which is why I love teaching people the habit and skill of setting goals.

This process is a glimpse of the back end work I do as a coach when working with clients. For the best results, everything must be systematic and sequential.

Keep going.
